If you attend/attended the military, any branch/service, during the five (5) year timeframe after graduation we will honor your awarded local scholarship(s) up to one (1) year after separation from the military service you chose
-
You must provide us with proof of service by way of your DD-214 (Department of Defense form 214) titled "Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty"
-
The DD-214 will provide dates of service which must start within the initial five (5) year timeframe after graduation from Northern Cass School and be continuous in nature
-
This is normally listed as "Date Entered AD This Period"
-
Example: if you graduated from Northern Cass on May 31, 2020, and joined the military on October 1, 2024, we will honor your awarded local scholarship(s) one (1) year after your separation from the military (listed as "Separation Date This Period"), this date will also be provided on your DD-214 and it is this date that we will use to establish the one (1) year timeframe.
-
-
Your time in service must be continuous in that you cannot have a break in service, any break in that service timeline starts the one-year scholarship award extension
-
Example: if you graduated from Northern Cass on May 31, 2020, and joined the military on October 1, 2024 (within the initial five (5) year timeline), then exited the military for any reason on January 31, 2028, but then rejoined the military on July 15, 2030, the one-year military extension began with the initial January 31, 2028, separation and you would not be eligible for access to your awarded local NCDFS scholarship(s) after January 31, 2029.
-
-
If your date of service start date provided by the DD-214 ("Date Entered AD This Period") falls outside of the five (5) year post graduation timeframe then the scholarship(s) awarded to you back on May 31, 2020, in the example above are forfeited and the monetary award(s) returned to the local scholarship fund
-
If your date of service start date provided by the DD-214 ("Date Entered AD This Period") falls inside the five (5) year post graduation timeframe then the scholarships awarded to you back on May 31, 2020 in the example above will still be accessible to you for one (1) year after separation and we will use the date listed on your DD-214 normally listed under "Separation Date This Period" regardless of how long you were enlisted in the military as long as that service was continuous in nature
-
As in the example above, if you joined the military on October 1, 2024 which falls within the five (5) years after graduation from Northern Cass and you stayed in the military for seven (7) years your DD-214 should show a "Separation Date This Period" of October 1, 2031, and you will have access to your awarded scholarships through October 1, 2032, after which you will forfeit any and all awards.
-
If you are unable to provide proof of continuous service via your DD-214 then this military service extension does not apply and monetary awards previously will be returned to the scholarship fund after the initial five (5) year timeline expires
